COLLEGE CONNECT - Not SO Endless Summer!!!

It's been a crazy summer. I've been to Costa Rica, I'm getting ready to go to Student Life Camp in Daytona and July will almost be over at that point. I hope everyone is having as much fun as I am. I feel like God is doing some great things at RCC and especially in Student Ministries.

We are starting a new series tonight at CONNECT!!

Be praying about kicking off the college service again in the fall. I know many of you miss FUEL. We are pursing that venue and others and it is getting exciting.

July 22nd is another Beach Day in Atlantic Beach. Volleyball and the Ocean is a great combo.

July 29th is the Ichetucknee River Trip. We meet at the Student House @ 8am that Wednesday Morning. Bring towels and 10-15 dollars for Tubes and park entrance.

CONNECT - SUMMER

I am so sorry about my slack blogging skills. I have been remiss in my duties as chief college blogger. I'm thinking about firing myself and assigning one of you as the blogging dude or dudette.

Anyway, summer is is full swing so be on the lookout for BEACH DAYS, TUBING TRIPS, and straight awesomeness. We will still be meeting this summer for CONNECT at my sweet castle in the hood of Dellwood. We are continuing a series that covers the entire Bible in an overview format called Biblical Literacy. I can hear my self getting smarter as my brain expands with Biblical knowledge.

ALERT!! We will not be meeting at our normal time for the next 2 weeks because I will be in Costa Rica.

We will be heading to the Beach on Wednesday Afternoon so please join us out there for some volleyball etc. We will be there around 1:30pm or 2pm. We right between Atlantic and Neptune Beach. If you are looking at the ocean we will be to the left of the Lemon Bar in front of the Old Sea Turtle Hotel.

I am, as always, looking forward to fun filled fatties of fellowship. (Why does that sound so inappropriate?)

Peace, Love and Jesus

Tower of Twitter

With all the social networking apps and online chattering tools that make it so easy to communicate with anyone anywhere, it seems like the world has become a bit smaller than it used to be.

That transitions me horribly into my next point which is, we have begun a new series at CONNECT called biblical literacy where we will attempt to learn more about the bible as a whole. As we see how the bible fits together we will see how relevant the bible is to our everyday lives.

This week we talked about the amazing times we are living in considering the technology that has advanced so rapidly. It was similar to the global unity that was appreciated in Genesis. The tower of babel was a result of a highly advanced people that lived a long time, became less dependent on God and became more swept away with their own ability to accomplish anything they wanted.

"Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves...."

watch this video and think about how the land of twitter and facebook is so similar to ancient Babylon.

JESUS CAMP

Yea that's right!! Jesus Camp was awesome. We had a great weekend with great weather at a great cabin in the woods on a cool lake with an awesome mud pit. Seriously, I really love how God reveals himself in nature. Just like it says in Romans 1 that we will be without excuse, I felt that as I noticed God's bigness and goodness over the weekend. From the star filled nights to the peaceful mornings at the eagle nest to the bonding time around the fire. God is Big and he is Good. Thanks to all who planned such a wonderful weekend.

CONNECT = AWESOME

Though the Fuel service is on hold, we rest in these simple truths: God is good, His plans are good, and His ways are not ours......

Thursday night Connects have been different lately. Students just seem hungrier. And not just for hummus and buffalo dip (though we do wonder if our snacks are their one meal for the day). But they really just seem hungrier for God. As we eat, sing together, pray, and dig into God's word, something just seems to be changing, stirring. We've been doing a series on "difficult passages in scripture". So far we've covered God's wrath, justification, losing your salvation, and as of this week, total depravity. We like to keep it light. Seriously, it has been deep and mind-spinning at times, but a good episode of the Office right after tends to keep us on an even keel.

Join us. Eat. Laugh. Talk. Listen. Debate. Love.
Every Thursday night 7pm, Derek and Beth's house.

CONNECT - Balls to the wall

We have been having a blast covering difficult passages in scripture. I am blown away by the great questions and answers that are discussed during our time on Thursday night.

This week we discussed Revelation 3. Are you lukewarm? or are you "balls to the wall" ? (you would have had to be there to understand the "Balls to the wall" question.) Was Jesus talking to Christians? Can you be Lukewarm and be a true follower of Jesus?

We had some great discussion and healthy disagreement.

Don't miss connect this week as we cover another crazy difficult passage in scripture. It's gonna be good.

BALLS TO THE WALL
Originally a military term for pushing maximum G-Forces in a jetfighter aircraft, as in pushing the ball of a throttle as high up as it will go (virtually touching the wall of the dashboard).
We will most likely NOT be meeting for, at least, the next few weeks.

If you are in college and interested in connecting with other students from RCC, then join the college group on facebook.

We meet every Thursday Night at the Dellwood Castle a few blocks from FUEL. Check it out.

If you are are not in college and were connected at FUEL the join the RCC career group on Facebook to find out more about what they are doing. OR......just come to River City Church Sunday morning to connect with all of us!!
